Default Rearend Gear Swap Question

I just want to start off by saying that this forum really rocks.

I've been lurking for sometime now and have been more than impressed with the demeanor of everyone here. I’ve been intrigued, entertained, and motivated to trick out my 99 sled instead of rolling it off a cliff because of this darn cheap GM transmission.

Nevertheless my question is about the rearend gearing. Is there anything I should be aware of before tackling this gear swap? Is it a user-friendly change?

The reason for the change is due to a lift were installing on a 2000 truck. I normally farm out my work to a local shop but I don’t believe that vendor shares the same vision of quality that do. This has prompted me to learning the 99-04 trucks rearends some more.

Any and all advice is welcome.

Good luck with finding info on this one. I would like to do the same thing, but everytime this comes up, the answer is usually get it done if you haven't done one before.

Maybe you can find something and let us know about it.

I sure will pass on the info once everything is complete. We are lifting a 2000 Chevy 2WD this week with a 7"FFS kit and 35" tires. Along with that the gearing will be changed as well. Since nobody has done this before or normally farms it out (I am guilty of that already) I wanted to exploit the simplicity or lack there of, of the procedures required to change them.

I will keep everybody posted.
