rear main seal in 5.3 ?

anyone had problems here

i have a 5.3 from a 04 buick rainer being transplanted to a 68 camaro

i have a friend w/ a 04 rainer who had rear mail replaced & his mechanic said this was a known problem w/ these engine

just curious how widespread a problem it is & whether i should replace seal before i install engine

122,000miles with no problem. if i had the engine out i would replace it just to be on the safe side.

my 5.3 leaks a little bit, as does my LS1.

I just pulled the LS1 out of my truck to swap with a 408 and it had been leaking a little.

I haven't heard of any common problems with them from the factory, but I have read that if they aren't installed with the proper tool, problems/leaks will more than likely occur.

I heard that the old style rear seals leaked alot and they(GM) redesigned them to fix this problem. I don't know if this true or not.....but if you have the engine out, then I would R&R it.
