Default Really need advice on mods for bang for the $

My truck is a 1999 Z71 5.3 with FIPK,Westers 91/93 Hot tune,Corsa,HD2 kit and vette servo and a 100hp dry shot.I'm debating on my next mod.I'm looking at either a cam swap[with stock converter]or an ATI procharger. They are much different in price but also much different in performance.Just need to figure out the best bang for the $.All installs would be done by me.Let me hear what you guys think.

well a cam install with a stock converter would be a waste.. granted you could go with a 206/212 cam, but the gains wouldnt be great. If you went with a 218-220 cam and a 3000 stall i'd say do that since the gains would be bang for the buck..

you are looking at about 3-4 tenths for the cam off ET and a good 4-5 tenths with a converter. So say almost a second drop in ET for 800-1000 bucks if you do the work.

or spend 3-6k for the procharger and drop about the same ET

depending on your cam you want, the stock verter isnt gonna cut it

if you have spray and boost on the stock shortblock expect the motor to go BOOM!

unless you have forged internals (pistons at the minimum, probably will need rods too) you WONT spray 100shot on top 8+ psi of boost and have a motor for very long

technically you can spray with a procharger but your pistons wont hold up

you dont have a sig saying what you have done to your truck so if you do have forged internals disregard what i said

btw a 100shot of n2o on boost will feel like 170+ shot

Oh how I hope you are wrong (just bought a wet kit for a 25 shot)

Why no converter?
A cam and converter matched would go very well with your 100 shot

i was thinking about your situation when i wrote that and id made sure i put later on that a 100shot + 8+psi wont work for very long

a 25shot is ALOT smaller than a 100shot(would be more like 200shot with boost) and his is a dry shot which means with boost he'll probably need 60lb. injectors

25 shot more than likely wouldnt hurt anything A 100 shot ontop alot of boost wouldnt be good for long

I personally would get a converter over anything.. best bang for the buck out there in my opinion

but dropping about a full second with a cam and converter for 1k over spending 4-5k for a ATI seems like a best bang for the buck to me unless I'm missing something LOL

if you have 5k to spend, then go ATI LOL

5k is actually cuttin it close unless you find a used kit, ive learned from here that a complete Fi kit normally costs around 7k when you get done with it, counting the kit + fueling, pulleys, tuning, etc.

I was just being easy on the price... thats the only reason I cant justify doing a ATI or anything.. thats my house payment LOL

if he has N20 already, like trever said a nice cam and stall combo would be the best bang for the buck. I think his minds already made up to get a procharger though
