Default Ram-Air set up on my Ram!

This post if for the guys who wanted me to keep them informed of what mods can be done on a Dodge Ram. I wont' call myself a spy for you guys but this was my first home when I had my Silverado so he's some information. The Ram airbox is pretty basic and seems to flow well, it has one air inlet that almost 4.5" square. The only drawback on the system is that the inlet is inside the engine bay, although the inlet tube is bent towards the fender and kind of behind the headlight. I got some 4.5" black thick flex duct and removed the inlet tube then inserted one end of the duct into the airbox. I ran the other end down to the bumper where I attached the inlet tube I removed from the airbox to use as the scoop. It is a true cold air set up, no other air can enter the airbox except the air from the scoop. I'll see how it works, just thought I would keep you guys in the loop.

The installed is pretty basic. I only bought one item, 3' of 4.5" black nylon/fiberglass wire reinforced flex duct from www.mcmaster.com, it is $7.56 a foot for the 4.5" duct. I removed the airbox inlet tube and inserted one end of the duct into the hole then ran the duct down to the bumper. The scoop is the inlet tube I removed from the airbox, I ran three self taping screws into it and attached it to the bottom of the lower black valance under the bumper. Pretty easy mod for about $25.

That looks awesome

Do you think a smooth tube goin to the airbox would make a difference instead of the accordion type you got?

I guess it would but I don't know how you be able to install it. It needs a few small turns, the flex duct just makes that easy. I could try pulling it real tight and take some of the slack out to see if it smooths it out. Although, the duct is smoother inside than it looks on the outside plus it's 4.5" duct, pretty good size.

I did the same thing when I had my Silverado, same concept. I have some pics I could post of that set up if you want.

Here it is: www.mcmaster.com
All the items are listed and have links on the main page, find the "Fabric Blowing & Exhaust Hose" link. This stuff is called "Smooth Bore Neoprene/Fiberglass Hose" on page 173, part # 5499K252
