Ram Air set up?
#1
Is it worth the effort to fab up some sort of raim air kit for my 99 Silverado? I know some guys have done it. Any "real world" gains or is it just a bragin thing? Mileage increase, power?

Not a truck but this is what I did for my SS

Fast toys claims there kit gives gains of 10 to 15 HP. So I think mine will do a lot better.

Some guys have done it and swear by it. Some have done it and say no big deal. I think a K&N setup is just fine. K&N, Volant, Airraid, UPD, and others are all showing similar gains. Some guys claim better results for different intakes. The numbers are dependent on what other mods you have done also. To my knowledge, no-one has sat at a dyno and dynoed each different intake on the same truck, motor and mods and conditions. With that said, anyone have the hook up to make that happen?

Once I am done with the piston slap, don't want to raise a flag with the warranty--I plan on installing electric fans form an f-body. Think Fast4.8 did that. Then I can fabricate my own air tube from pvc pipe. They make thinner pvc fittings that should work. I'll install a universal K&N cone filter in the stock air filter box (I have the optional larger capacity). Then I will fabricate a ram air tube assembly using hvac pipe and fittings (6 inch). I plan on using the rectangular area where the right tow hook is and cutting the little piece away seperating it and the driving light. A 90 degree 3 1/4X 10 to 6 inch vent boot should work to fit in this hole to scoop the air. Use a 6 in pipe to go up into the bottom of the air box. Monetary investment should be minimal and power gains should equal or exceed any aftermarket set up--imo. Anyone done this by chance??
