I don't even use the heat shield from mine, so thats an option.

Where exactly does it attach to the body? The way it looks in some of the pics I have seen is the heat shield bolts to the body and the intake tube bolts to that....

on the k&n's i beleive there is a piece that attaches to the heat sheild that holds the intake tube steady, than on the other side of that piece is the filter... it sort of bolts through the heat sheild... but i dont think the fitment will be that far off... you should have more room in your 06 since you have efans

I guess the question is, will it have the same mounting points and will I just need to trim the heat shield? Or is it going to be a matter of drilling new holes, cutting up the shield, etc.

i guess you'll have to see... idk too many ppl that are doing this... but i'd imagine whatever you do will probably be pretty simple, unless the pipe is bent differently (doubtful) or diff. length, than i dont see what other problems you would have
