Default Quick E-fan question.

How far should the e-fans be from the radiator. the previous setup I had was right up against the radiator. I had heard somewhere that it had to have some clearance between the two.

it should bolt right up to it, that way it can pull the air straight off the radiator.

You just don't want any possibility of the fans rubbing against the radiator.

I built prototype units for GM. Directly to the radiator! As said earlier, if there is a gap between the edge of the shroud and the core it will suck air through the gap instead of the core. An example of how important this is is to look at the space between the a/c condenser and the radiator, GM seals that with foam so air HAS to go through both cores.

The GM setup on the 06's is bolted directly to the radiator. That is by far the best way to go!

It's not how far the fan is from the radiator, It's how well the fan sucks air thru the shroud. Unless your putting it on the front and pushing air through the radiator. If your pulling, as long as your shroud covers 75+% of the radiator and your fan is at the mouth of the shroud, distance doesn't matter!!!! The shroud is the key.. I cooled a Kick *** 327 in a s10 with a single core radiator just because the fan and shroud where correct.. Hope this answers your question...
