Default Question about 160 degree thermostats?

Hey guys, I have been wanting to put in a 160 thermostat in my Yukon for a while. However, does this affect the truck at all in terms of warming up? I live in Michigan so the winters here SUCK. Hate getting into a cold truck and the sooner it warms up the better.

Yes it will affect the truck warming up. Stock tstats are cheap at the dealer or hell someone here may give you one. I took mine and did the bb mod to it and then bought a new one for the winter time, just swap it out when it starts to warm up.

I live here in nebraska and it gets cold here and i have not had a problem with the heater. It takes a couple min longer to warm up inside but not a big deal. You will be fine with it in you yukon.

If you are worried about the 160 you could go with the 180. Like they said we don't have to worry about that here in Texas.

YukonSS:
Putting a 160 stat in your truck will cost you power and actually damage your motor. LS and LQ engines come with 195 stats stock which can be a bit warm under hard HiPo use, but peak power comes in these engines when the coolant is at about 185 degrees, so using a 160 unless you live in death valley in the summer is not smart. I know these aftermarket catalogue and internet sales guys want to sell you guys parts, but there just trying to make profit, not take care of your motor. Put in a 180 and you'll be just fine!

I serously doubt this ever happening.
Just go with a 160 tstat. It will reduce the chances of detonation when you advance your timing with tuning.

Is this true? If I go a lower pulley size on my blower, should I get a 160* stat?

I have yet to hear anyone having motor damage from a 160 thermo.

I ran one in my T/A for 40+k miles without a hitch. Most trucks/car will run 175-190deg depending on fan settings with a 160 thermo. NOT 160deg...

I do agree our cars are meant to run on the warmer side but anything over 190 and performance doesn't seem to change.

If you live in super cold weather I would stick to a 180 just to be safe though.
