proper engine break-in?
#1
I just bought my 04 chevy silverado scsb truck with the 5.3. It only had 3 miles on it when I bought it... so is there a proper way to break this engine in, or is there anything special that I should do?

Talk about opening a can o worms. Many many opinions on this one. Mine is drive it like you plan on driving it from day one. 1st oil change 500 miles. safely switch to sythetic any time after that.(if you want) If you read any old posts, find the "got the 408" in from parish. New motor. had Gtech times like the next day. You have a 36000 mile warrenty make sure that sucker is gonna run now not when it's your dime.

i did my first oil change after about 20 minutes idleing. then drove it sort of easy for about 100miles, then moderately for about 300more and changed the oil to synthetic. then ***** to the wall!!
i think on factory new stuff you do the same but can skip the 20 minute oil change.

i let mine idle for 15 then changed the oil, then i was kind of easy on it for 200 miles then it was time to see what it could do... changed the oil at 500 and plan on changing to full synthetic after 3000 miles are on the engine

That motor sees redline SEVERAL times before it is shipped.
