The prochargers are a pretty good kit imo. The kit uses an f.m.u. to raise the fuel pressure and uses the stock injectors. The boost really doesn't kick in until above 3000 rpms, so if you're wanting low-end boost this isn't the kit for you. The stock kit I had made 352 rwhp and 348 rwft-lbs of torque (5.3). I later swapped to bigger injectors and a custom tune and ditched the f.m.u. and I could tell it ran much stronger. The worst part of the kit is the location of the air filter. It sits right over the hot-*** engine. You don't live too far from me either. Oh, the straight out of the box kit doesn't require any tuning, but if you upgrade injectors you will need tuning done.

How much boost is capable of being made with the Procharger? Would you have to upgrade to another version to make more boost?

The upgrade to the D1SC is only like $300 and that can run a pretty good amount of boost. Im already overspinning this crap Vortech at 9-10# with 6200 shift points. The upgrade to the larger hybrid is between $500- $1000 depending on who you talk to at Vortech (thats with trading in what they consider a 100% good charger and you have no recourse as far as their decision). I paid almost the same amount and dont even get an intercooler!!

i had a procharger on my 5.3 a while ago. I had the smaller pulley on it and with a custom tune and i made 375 rwhp and 410rwtq. I ran a 13.6 with heavy 20 inch wheels. It is capable of making great power and i drove the thing over 1000 miles a month. i still had stock injectors too. There is a guy on here who made a custom intake to relocate the air filter away from the exhaust.

Default Procharger

I currently have an out of the box procharger kit on my 02 5.3. The out of the box kit requires no special tuning just bolt on and go. The only thing is you might want to start saving for a built transmission. Two days after I installed my kit my 2nd gear band went to pieces and tore up more parts. But as far as the power goes it is fun picking on mustangs, camaros, and imports.

im running powerdyne on mine, when i traded for the blower kit it was a 6 psi system stil in the box unopened, made a search and found a 9 psi pully on sale for 52.00. the charger came with a paper to fill out for a tune on a prediator,
on first dyno run with their tune i was at 330 rwhp and 342 rwtq
after the custom tune 2nd run on dyno at 368rwhp 373 rwtq
with out the fmu at wot fuel pressure droped to 40
with the fmu it brought it back up to 70 at wot
unlike a roots, full pressure is at 3000 rpms.
at 2000 rpms im makeing 3 1/2 to 4, at 2500 im makeing 6, at 3000 im makeing a full 9 psi
i had a B&M on a 302 im my old fairlane it was good but i like this set up so much better.

i want to put a 5.3 or 6.0 in place of my 4.3. and i realy want to supercharge it. its only cubic dollars.

I drive a dark green extended cab 2001 Z-71. The procharger is a good system, it just depends if you want more low end. If you want to feel the extra power a little earlier then a whipple or radix would be the way to go. It's all personal preference. The most common recommendation for the procharger is larger fuel injectors which requires a new tune. After that the procharger is close to the same price as a radix kit. Turbos seem to be getting real popular around here, so there's another option!
