Another possibility is intermittant neutral which is covered by tsb and the dealer should take care of it. I had it on mine and it was a pita until they fixed it. Nothing like trying to leave the line and have it jump into neutral rev up and then dump back into first gear. I had to go round and round with them in order to get it fixed. They've got a new cable for the tranny that solves the problem.

Default problem with the truck

i have a 2001 sierra and every now and then then transmission feels like it's slipping. it's always when i go from a dead stop and feels like i'm hydroplaning for a brief second, then it catches on and everything seems fine. any ideas on what it could be?

Yep it is the slip yoke between the tranny and the differential. I have a 2001. Is yours making a squeaking noise? Mine was slipping right off the line and also when I would stomp on the gas and getting it to drop to second right around 60mph. I took it into the dealer for warranty. They knew what it was right away. I guess it is a common occurence. They installed a nickel plated slip yoke and everything is fine now. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
