Default Problem...Silverado is SLOW

Well I got a 2003 Silverado Z71...on the door it says it weighs 6,500lbs. Now I had a 2002 Tahoe and it said it weighed 5,000lb. Anyways they both had the same engine but the Tahoe was a rocket compared to the Z71. Now I realize 1,500lbs is alot but is there anything I can do to get this thing a good bit faster? I would install gears but I don't want gas mileage go to ****.

The only things I got in mind right now are Pacesetter longtube headers, O/R Y, 3" catback, CAI, and tune. How much power would that give me?

That number on the door is the gross vehicle weight rating, not the actual weight of the truck. The difference in performance is likely due to the increased weight and driveline friction from the 4WD.
Gears would make a noticeable difference in performance and would not affect mileage too much.

The 03' & up 5.3L engines tend to have a bit more torque management in their tuning program than the 99'-02' 5.3L trucks. This would be the reason your truck feels slow.
A custom tune will take care of all that mushy power.

werd, and I highly doubt your silverado weighs 6500lbs. That is unless it's a 2500, or heavy duty truck, but then it wouldn't have the z71 package

Well the Tahoe was 4WD also...Anyways...So a tune will help out alot? Should I wait until I have full exhaust and intake before I tune it or what?

i just picked up a predator handheld tuner as my first mod. ill use the standard tune and then once i add more mods (exhaust/intake) im going to get a custom tune from diablo....they email em for free. actually, ill be storing 2 tunes on the predator, one for gas mileage and one for power

I've never been too sure around the predator hand held thing. I've always used a dyno tune...how well does the handheld things work?
