Default Prefill oil filters?

So, iv pre filled my oil filters for years, since I started changing oil as a kid. I work for a Cat dealer, and Cat preaches not pre filling any type of filters, to prevent contamination of whatever fluid the filter is for.

Now I see very little chance of contaminating oil, pouring it straight from the bottle, to the filter, to prevent starving the engine for a few seconds it takes to fill the filter if installed dry.

What's y'all's thoughts on this? Prefill or not

Iv'e always pre-filled and the few people I trust to work on my truck also do the same. I don't see what contamination could happen between pouring it into the filter and placing it in the motor.

same here, i pre fill mine, dont see what contamination there could be? unless you prefill the filter with something other then the oil you are going to run in that engine.

I have always pre filled also, I also used to work for a major CAT dealer and never heard of this. I would not want a empty filter, especially like some of the large equipment that the filters will hold 2-3 qts.

I think it's mainly fuel systems, but they say all filters. Some of these newer fuel systems run at 25k plus psi, at that pressure, something as small as 30 microns could wipe out an injector. Case in point, the 6.6 and 4.4 lol

Pretty much all new diesels run those pressures, also most new DI gas motors run 1,600-2,100 also. Now filling out of a bulk tank can be another story depending on how the tank and pump are maintained.

Most DI gas engines are around 1,500, not 15,000 like diesels. I always pre-fill as well.

Brain lapse on my part, I meant hundred not thousand. I think my car hits a peak of like 2,100.

I always prefill oil filters ,

My fuel filter on my dmax I don't , be cause my lift pump fills it up for me before I start the truck .

Dumb rule by cat if you ask me . Each to their own.

I will always pre-fill my filters. fuel filters on the heavy equipment i work on has a hand pump and bleeder valve added to them for ease of "burping" the system.
