The shaft in the pump probably broke. Try to pry the pulley away from the housing. See what happens. I'm 90% sure GM pumps come with a lifetime warranty, so buy a GM one, and never have to worry about buying another. This is a VERY common with this style pump GM uses.........just a weak shaft.

no they really dont make stronger pumps cause that will kill your p/s rack seals
the trick to keeping them alive is not to ever hit your steering "lock" or stop thats where the pressure goes WAY up and bad things happen
