Found A Set Of L98 Vette Heads For 250$ Rebuilt And I Was Considering Buying Them And Having Someone Port Them For Me As An Alternative To Getting Vortec Heads And Having To Change Out The Intake And Have Them Machined For Larger Springs.i Keep Hearing That The Vortecs Are Way Better And That I Might Be Waisting My Time.what Kind Of Gains Do You Think A Ported Set Of Aluminum L98 Heads Would Give.the Heads Are Also From An 87 Vette.ive Heard The +88 Are Slightly Diffrent.please Chime In

 

Vortecs flow better out of the box but if you are going to have the L98 heads ported..they will flow better than the vortecs plus have a 58cc combustion chamber for an increase in compression. Roughly half a point.

87-up heads have the same intake pattern so your intake should bolt up; however, I would change the intake out as well to the Edelbrock TBI manifold they have. That should help as well.

 

what kind of gains do you think ill be looking at ? the other reason why i didnt want vortecs was because i already have a intake i like.im running holley pro-jection intake and throttle body.

 

From TBI to L98 heads (stock), is about a ~25 hp swap. Ported though....35-40hp is not out of the question.
