Plug wire questions.
#1
Now that I need at least one new plug wire. I was putting dielectric grease on the connections last night and one broke at the plug.
I was just going to buy one from the dealer until can get a good aftermarket set.
I did a search and found allot of information, people here are using MSD, Taylor, Mallory etc...
Which is the best?
Which can you still use the stock metal boot covers with?
Which ones should I stay away from?
I was going to get some MSDs, so where can I get a set from on our supplier list?
Anything else to add, throw it in please.
Thanks guys.

NAPA has sets for $72.99. They are made by Belden from what the store guy said. Never heard of them, they do have a life time guaranty and can use the factory metal boot covers.
AutoZone quoted me $63.00 for a Bosch set, and $40.00 for Duralast.
Never heard of some of these brands.
I called the dealer and they will sell them individually for $12.50 each.
What to do, what to do.....
These are the NAPA wires.

My dads old car (95 Grand Marquis) had a problem with its plug wires. One day the stock wires went bad so we replaced them with some Duralast from "the Zone" and it would burn them up after a couple of weeks...
It did this several times. (the wires had warranty so we would get new ones) At night we would rev up the motor and the wires would glow. We couldn't drive the car much since the engine wasn't running right. Finally my dad opted for the more expensive Bosch wires and the problem stoped. Probably the coils in the car were bad so it would burn up the wires. My dad finally totaled the Mercury about 6 months later and the wires were still working great. (stupid bitch in a civic ran a red light
)
From this experience, I learned that the Bosch wires seem to be more durable than the Duralasts.

Bought the NAPA wires and opened the box, on the instructions there was a Federal Mogul Logo. Guess the Belden company actually makes the wire and Federal Mogul assembles it.....I think.
They look exactly like the stockers except the wire is a dark blue color not black. The ends are exactly the same as stock down to the finest detail, the metal covers fit the perfect.
I'll report back on the performance or durability.

I've used Belden wires on other vehicles in the past (friends, family, side jobs, etc.). They make a quality product, and I've had a good success rate with em. As far as aftermarket replacement parts go, NAPA is my favorite personally.
