Default Piston Knock in 02' 5.3???

I have a 2002 silverado with a 5.3, and i have the piston knock that many people have said are prevalant in these motors. Has anybody found a why to fix this with out havin to replace the piston rings?? Or at least a way to help reduce as much knock?? Any info is really appreciated!!

I don't think it's the rings but the pistons themselves. Try doing a Search on it and/or posting it in the Internal Engine section.

let the engine warm up before you drive it alot of motors with piston slap have been fine for over 100k. Its a clearance issue when the motor is cold causing the piston to rock at BDC.

Ya iv gotten a lotta people sayin the same thing, jus let it warm up in the morning and it will be fine. Its jus so annoying on a $30k truck. But oh well i am a huge GM fan, and am not gonna get a lil tapping or knocking noise get to me. I got 250,000 miles out of my last silverado on the same motor and tranny and it to had a little knockin noise, but it was under hard acceleration only. I got 100,000 miles on this one so far, and i am hopin to get another 100,000 at least. We will see!
