Even my head porter doesn't use a tool-uses a deep socket.

Don't wanna hijack...but when I go to swap on some PAC 1218's I will be doing seals also since the heads have bee sitting for 5+ years and I don't want to take a chance that they'll be dried out. I've always just installed valve seals with a deep socket until they "bottomed out"...will the seals that I do be the same as these and use the same method?

LOL...I mean that I thought that the beehive spring uses a different seal than the duals? Don't some applications have the seal built into the valve spring seat, or something like that? I know that there are two different style seals available...

yes the duals use a different seat that comes with their kit, and i believe they are a different height. the stock style one piece seat/seal are what you use with beehives..
and yes there is a intake and exhaust seat/seal if thats what you meant by two different types available..?
edit- saw your question in another thread and yes there was two different ones, they(GM) switched to a one piece seat/seal, from a two piece, not sure on the yr change..

I'll bet that even though there was a production change along the line (01?), you could still use the separate seals/seats with beehives, as mentioned, the earlier ones came that way. Pretty sure that my 5.3 has the separate seals/seats from the factory...well, obviously you can use them, you are

There was some debate over the stock setup versus the pat gold and pac beehives, the above picture is the stock ratainer/seal on the end with the new retainer besides it. The new retainer doesnt have the seal on it, but you can see it in the first picture I posted...
