no you don't have to have to have one. the fjo unit with data loging cost about $800 and i feel that it is worth every penny and there are cheaper units out their now.

if you have a way to monitor ltrims and your 02's and plan on running moderate boost then i would consider it optional right now, if you plan on uping the boost or hiting it with nitrous then it becomes more of a nesasity.

I really like the looks of that Innovative wideband. I would promote the Techedge 2.0 more but, the software support for regular laptops sucks. They do have nice PalmOS software though if you can get one for cheap. I'm going to wait for EFILive 6 to come out and see if it has the serial data logging option. If so I will be able to log my wideband output into EFILive logs.

hey, what is the true purpose of the wideband anyways? just to read air/fuel ratio? why cant i just use something like this to help me tune. autometer gauge will this be good enough for me to tune with? i plan to run about 7 pounds of intercooled boost. no laughing gas. i just cant justify spending so much on a sensor.

those A/F gauges like you listed don't show actual readings. A true wideband shows actual A/F readings from an 02 sensor.
I bought an Innovative WB, but I am gettign an error after being on for a little while from the heat of being in the second 02 hole.
Another guy on the LS1Edit forum is getting the same error on his, and he has an extra hole welded in between the 1st and 2nd 02 holes.
The developer at Innovate, Klaus, told me two weeks ago the update that corrects this would be on the site by sept 24th, but still nothing there, and they have not returned my two emails about it. It does work well until it shuts off, however, if you drive after the error reading, you can burn up the sensor, as it gets shut down after the error reading.
In any event it was worth it for me to get a reading at all.
