Default Pacesetter ORY + Stock Cats?

I was wondering if anyone had tried this? There doesn't seem to be much room between where logtubes would come out and the crossmember, but has anyone tried to add the stock (or aftermarket) cats to the Pacesetter Y-pipe?

I want to stay quasi-legal here if I can.

Here's an idea I had for this sort of situation. Get some old cats or cheapo universal cats that will slip over the tubes of the y-pipe, hollow them out, slip em over and weld em on. You can twist and turn them to clear whatever (hopefully) and still pass a visual.

I had though of trying something like that, but I think that I'll try to retain the cats. Just trying to save a buck or two over a full SW or Dynatech system. If I have to pay someone to fab up a custom Y-pipe with cats for pacesetters, I'm thinkng that I might as well go with Thorleys or TOG's and pay them to cut and weld the flanges on the existing Y-pipe. It would pobably end up being cheaper in the end.

cheaper in the end with close to 0 gain. i understand why you want to keep cats. if i had a picture of the pacesetter Y you would be able to see that there is no room for a cat on the passenger side.

no room at all. the headers go back way to far for cats to fit with that sort of y pipe.

If you have LT's anyway, you're not passing a visual, no matter how many cats you have. Most places i've been to just do the sniffer and nothing else. Might as well put a cat right before the tailpipe.

It has been my experience that the visual portion of the inspection is less than rigorous. I know that my 94 Z28 passed without the EGR system in place. Looks like if I want to keep the cats and see any real gains that I'll need to save up for the SW or Dynatech system anyway. Those look like really high quality, and I wouldn't have to pay anyone to cut and weld anything for me.

One thing that I have read in the past is that if you move the cat too far downstream in your exhaust that there wil not be enough heat to make the thing work properly, in which case you might as well not have any at all.

The real solution to this problem is to move out to the country somewhere where they don't bother with this sillyness.

Visual in NJ consists of someone just sticking a mirror under there for a second. tdrumm passed with his ASM's, but he has his cats still in place. They open the hood and peek around also....I'm curious if they'll notice that I don't have EGR next time around. I don't think they will since it looks factory-ish, and later models don't come with EGR anyway. I may go to a local independent shop and pay just in case.
