Pacesetter LT's install
#1
well, after seeing a post on here a couple weeks ago about Texas speed having the Pacesetters on sale, i got a set for my truck. $400 shipped to my door.
put em on in a couple hours friday night. look real good, doesnt sound much different, other than it seems to actually be quieter as far as interior sound. it might be a little louder at WOT. throttle response is a little better.
it feels stronger from about 3000 rpm on up, which i expected since these things are a fairly big primary tube size (1.75") for such a small displacement motor. a little smaller primary (1 5/8") would work better down low, but oh well. a 1 5/8" to 1 3/4" step header would be real nice.
i got some straight 3" collectors welded to the headers, then some 3 to 2.5" reducers to hook up my headpipes. worked out real good. another $50 bucks from Jegs.
driver's side went in real easy from the bottom, take the steering shaft knuckle loose from the rack and thats it.
pass. side took a lttle more work. removed the dipstick, oil fill tube on the valve cover, and the bracket that holds the heater hoses on the valve cover. i did it w/ the starter in place and put the header in from the top. it would be easier w/ the starter removed.
got some OEM replacement MLS gaskets from NAPA. sprayed em down w/ coppercoat before i put em on.
wanted to say thanks for the advice yall have given me!
now its time for a cam and PCM
oh, and a little kill story. as soon as i left my buddie's exhaust shop sat. morning i got stopped at a redlight beside a Dakota R/T (all i noticed were duals w/ turndowns as far as mod's). we hit em from a dead stop, i pulled him a car length through first gear (i was on motor), when i hit 2nd gear i sprayed him.....it got real ugly. after that he didnt want to play anymore

i figured i'd wait and do the tune when i put the cam in. save me from having to send it back to be reprogrammed or whatever. its definitely got some more grunt even w/ the stock tune.
i havnt noticed the flange bolts loosening up any, they're still tight. the collector bolts loosened up enough to leak on the ride home, tightened em down, good to go. ill keep a close eye on it for a few days.
i know this install info has been posted several times, but i figured since a lot of people keep asking, i'd give my input.
how bout my sig pic? even though it aint my truck, figured i'd show it off

the cats are long gone. ive got a custom 2.5" true dual system w/ an old pair of 3" 40 series (2 chamber) flowmasters, the original style, not deltaflows. just a pair of O2 sims now.
there is no room to keep the cats in their stock location. you could mount them both on the passenger's side. any good exhaust shop should be able to do this, but you'll probably need some extensions for the rear O2 sensors.
it must suck having to deal w/ emissions testing! CHIP
