I'm really picky, has anyone done over axle on their 5.3's? I want to hide the exhaust, as I'm pretty picky with cosmetics on trucks. Just need some input as to whether their sound quality changed or what they would do differently? Also need advice on muffler, considering I want something that sounds a little throaty but not obscenely loud. Thanks guys

my truck came to me with a flowmaster single in dual out with turn downs about a foot in front of the axle, it looks good, and doesn't sound too bad. its stock header,cats,tubing though.

one of my cats is rattling and it keeps throwing an o2 code so im going to pull all of it out and put a pair of long tubes with high flow cats behind them a 3" x pipe, a pair of borla xr-1 mufflers and turndowns, not sure how well that will fit before the axle but that's what I would do differently.

 

My 2 cents would be since your already over the axle, go all the way back and dump it behind the bumper. At least then you would be blowing dirt and stuff up mostly behind the truck and not down the sides.


There is a million mufflers to choose. I have tried a bunch. If you want a quiet growl, Walker SoundFX is pretty perfect for that. From there, you can go out in steps louder and louder.

 

What's done to your truck?

My truck has stock manifolds, cats, piping, with 2.5" summit race muffler(dynomax basically), dumped right before the axle. Here's a video of idle and revving to about 2-2500 and 4-4500.
