I got quoted $900 for the install. Plus, the truck would need to be re-tuned. No F'n way. That's friggin crazy

I didn't know that the stock springs were good to .550, or I would have stuck with mine and saved myself some valvetrain noise. I thought that they were only good to .500, plus, my dad's Comp rep recommended the 915's (Although the rep is basically a salesman, so who knows how much truth there was to his recommendation)

If that's the case, tdrumm can get off real cheap (relatively of course). Cam, gasket kit, fluids, and tune. I'd definitely do some research on the springs though.

From what a GM performance guy told me they are good to .550. They are the same in the F-body. And the 98-00 came with .500 lift. Also you could add some 1.85 rockers without changing sprinds, which brings it up to .544 i believe.

As far as changing gaskets, WHY? They are ALL o-rings and can be reused. I had 61k miles on my engine when i did my swap and its never leaked a bit.

To me it's just cheap insurance. When you can get a gasket kit so cheaply, why re-use gaskets that have already been compressed and possibly damaged upon removal. Sure you can re-use the old ones and probably be OK 7 out of 10 times, but personally, I'd rather pay a little more once instead of having to pull my timing cover off a second time because I didn't want to spend another 40 bucks. Nothing worse than having to do a job twice when it could have been avoided in the first place.

Check it out, $36.95 plus s&h. http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/2721...asket-Kits.htm
Why pay over $400 for a cam and then skimp on the gaskets...just doesn't make sense to me. But hey, opinions vary. I'd rather drive my truck than fix it twice.

Thanks for the replies guys, since it looks like my chain, oil pump, and pushrods are OK, I'll be doing just cam and springs, and like budhayes3 said, for $37 bucks the gaskets and bolts are too cheap not to replace. Hopefully I'll be able to pull together some more money to do an ASP pulley too since I'll have it off to do teh swap.
