Don't get me wrong, I would hit about 8.5-9psi at about 3000-3500rpms, but to hit peak was seconds later. Never could you do a 7psi launch, and not so sure if you can get it to give 1lb prior to launch. I never could, but honestly didn't try it too often.
Boost "seen" is dependant on the volumetric efficiency of an engine. The reading on a boost gauge will never constantly read what the blower is pulleyed for. Boost is a measurement of back pressure. It can be misleading when manufacturers state full boost at any rpm. One assumes a 5psi pulley will show, on a boost gauge, 5psi at any rpm. Once you're wot a positive displacement blower will deliver its "full volume of air"(aka full boost), whatever volume the pulley is sized to deliver. Although due to the flow characteristics of an engine, boost readings may rise or fall as rpms increase. The Lightning is set for 8psi from the factory yet can yeild a few more psi up top with just air box mods. Apparently, with the Cobra boost readings drop off up top.
