If I had the budget, a turbo would be nasty in there!!! But I don’t. Maybe a nitrous plate at some point, timing tuner as well.. but not any budget for Turbo builds..
Are you on a time constraint? I feel that a budget can be what ever you set it at, if you chose to let the process take alittle longer you can set a budget that will be more bang for your buck, and in the long run your the smile on your face will say it all.

I agree to an extent.. but I am limited to the salary job/Alabama child support/single dad budget.. and I really wouldn’t want to take more than 2-3 months to do a build. I get TOO antsy when I am doing projects, once I get the budget and logistics worked out. I like to game plan for weeks.. and then make things happen as efficiently as I can once I start one.

This will actually be my first build since the ex and I left court 4 years ago.. so I am starting to brain storm early and lay out each expense, so I can justify it to myself. I am more excited to build something fun that I can express… just fine tuning ideas at this point.

IMHO TH400 is overkill for a NA 4.8, heck a built 4L60e or 65e will suffice. The TH400 is heavy as all get out. Even if you want a Turbo Hyrdo, get a TH350 at least.
Know of a guy here has a mild built 6.0, 60e in my old '89 Mustang, runs 10's NA and drives it.

As far as suspension, we got ours into low 1.20's..just take some playing with.

Dayum!!! giving me videos like that is going to ruin my budget!! I appreciate the advice on the trans.. I just want to keep it simple and cheap. If you think that TH 350 would hold with a stout power plant, then I can lean that way. I think I could get the weight down to ~2800ish pretty easily..

What was the engine/trans setup in that Car on the video?

This is comparable to what you could do on a conservative budget

we had three motor combos that year. All C4 /Windsor setups.

best daily was an aluminum headed 408...ran an 8.88 in 1/4 and 10.54 on motor. Went bigger 414 cubic inch for 1/8th mile.
I know of 9 second cars running TH350's....

No way your gonna get a cheap 60E to hold up.. a cheap th400 would be my choice.. everybody likes overkill!!! well some do.

Look at it thru a $$ stand point, id do a JY 80E.
just cause i could get them for cheap and still daily driveable very easy.

so a Performabuilt 60e isnt good enough, or a Finishline? Remember, the 60's are weak in a heavy, high powered truck...a Mustang is like 3100 lbs...and can diet down to 2800 on a SBC.

I dont trust them...

Performabuilt without converter $1840.00

FLT Level 3 $1,595.00

Stock 80E from JY $400 plus a $1000 stall = cheaper than the above

Oh belive me i know.. i broke and burnt so many of them its not funny.

For a budget build like that id go with the best priced stuff.

No way id spend 1600 on a trans and ~600 on a stall when i can get both for cheaper than the trans and know it would live with as much power you can put to the tires in that light weight rig.
