Default Oil Pump Relief or Bad Sensor???

So this weekend I took my truck to the store. Came outside, started the truck and wham....No Oil Pressure. I instantly shut it off. Once I got it back to the shop for ***** and grins I started it again...Full Oil Pressure..

I have heard of the relief in the pump sticking open. And also heard of bad sensors.

What would you guys do? Hook up a mechanical gauge and test it? Change the sensor? Pull the pan and pump and check into it?

If the relief sticks open...is there a chance it can close and work again?

I do have a L96 6.0L that is almost ready to go into the truck anyways. But its not fully ready.

I just don't want to be far away from home and have no oil pressure again.

Definitely put a mechanical gauge on it and verify. I wouldn't rule out a failure of the oil pump pick-up O-ring either. Its a notorious little problem on these engines.

I know the red oring is good. Ive driven it for 7k miles with no issues. And i can't see that failing, then working again. That's what lead me to think it's the sensor or the relief....

Are there any places I can put a mechanical gauge besides the back of the intake?

If I remember correctly, I think there is a spot to access oil pressure on the driver's side front of the block, about level with the crank, just rear of where the timing cover meets the block. I think there's an allen headed plug in the port.
