Oil pressure goin past 80! Sending Unit?
My oil pressure gauge on my dash recently started sitting at 40 at idle and going way past 80 upon load. I checked my cluster gauge with my buddy's interceptor gauge and they read the same. I have been searching and it seems like it may possibly be the sending unit.... Where exactly is it located and does anyone have directions how to change it?
My other concern is that my oil on my dipstick has gone down about 1/4 to 1/2 a quart in about 400-500 miles of driving. Does it sound like something more then a sending unit?

Mine never used to peg out.....used to sit at 20 at idle, 40 when cruisening and 60 when getting on it. IDK i'm a bit concerned. I havent changed the oil recently. It only been like 1000 miles since my last oil change (5 months ago royal purple 5w30) it sits in my garage 1/2 the year. Thanks for the quick replies. Anyone else have anything?

Mine has always acted the way you describe, just above 40 @ idle, 60 cruising, and over 80 @ WOT. I know that the factory gauges aren't the most accurate though. As for oil consumption, if there's no leaks you may be sucking oil through the PCV system, which is very common on the GENIII engines. I have an oil catch can to help combat the excessive oil consumption problem on mine. Of course worst case scenario would be oil burning elsewhere, such as past the rings, but if the engine has low miles and been well maintained, I doubt that's the issue.

The truck only has 45000 on it. I am concerned bc I am wanting to do my cam swap in the next few weeks and dont want to order the parts if something is wrong with the motor. Thanks for your input.
