Default Oil Capacity??

I just put this LQ4 in my truck. With 6 qts of oil in it, it's reading considerably over full, perhaps a full qt. I'm using the pan that came with the engine, and the dipstick and tube out of the 5.3. The PN on the pan on the 6.0 is 12577396. The PN on the 5.3 pan is 12560392. Do these two pans have different capacities, or what?

Did you start it yet? Maybe it is as simple as that.

It's definitely 6 qts. Might have the wrong dipstick? Post pics of the stick and the tube.

It's the dipstick and tube that came from the 5.3. I don't have the one that came from the 6.0. I would have thought that they would be the same. Orange is 6.0, black is 5.3.

That's the right one. Hmm....

I'm assuming when you swapped motors, the 6.0 was drained of all fluids long before you installed it? If so, and you put in 6 qts of oil when installed, I wouldn't worry about the dipstick.

BUT, have you checked your oil pressure? I see you installed a melling oil pump, wondering if there might be a chance that the O-ring didn't get installed correctly on the pick up tube or something with the pump to cause it not to pull oil up to the top end of the motor...

This is a completely rebuilt engine, and the oil's been changed twice already.

I'm not sure what oil pressure has to do with it. Oil pressure is great. 55 PSI hot idle. 65-70 cruising. Doesn't matter since oil is checked with it drained back to the pan.

Anyone have access to GM PNs to check the pans, dipstick, and tube? Are they different PNs for '01 5.3 and '04 6.0?
