Default Oil for 408

Ive noticed my oil pressure stays around 50 after my engine gets warm, but is 60+ (at 3k rpm no less) when the engine is still cool. Is this indictive of needing a heavier weight oil or what?

Is that 50 at idle, hot? Both my old and new engines have about 50 PSI at idle and 60-70 with 2000-3000 RPMs.

Yea 48-50 at idle hot. I just noticed when driving on the highway at 2400rpm it was still around 50 when.it should be higher. I am using 5w30 mobile 1.

i run that in the winter, stepped up to a 10-50 during the summer to keep it from breaking down causing a drop in oil pressure!

I've got 10W-30 in my new 6.0. My 5.3 had 5W-40 in it.

Sounds good to me, I wouldnt worry about it. If you want a little extra security run some 10w40. I ran 20w50 for initial start up and break in then 5w30 after that. I think Ill end up with 10w40 just to quiet the valve train a hair.

Just picking a oil on a built motor is something you should NOT do. Talk to the builder and see what the clearances are setup too. The builder should be able to suggest what to run to meet the needs of your motor.

I plan on going back to 5W-40 after break-in. I was using Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck oil.
