I drive cars with no air bags. Die like real men

The Corolla earned top safety ratings from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA for passenger protection. Not that it matters to me. I never wear a seatbelt LOL.

So you'd rather get wrecked in Corolla or a Sierra? Which vehicle has better situational awareness and is less likely to get into a crash to begin with?

The IIHS Death Rate for a Corolla is 54, the Sierra's is about half that for the same year vehicles. All of my family members growing up, including myself, were severely injured in small vehicle crashes. Never again for me.

Well, when I compare a new Corolla and your old Sierra, the death rate is the same. As they say used to say, to each his own. There's no wrong way, just different ways.

A Corolla and a 2500HD Silverado has the same death rate? That's hard to believe. I guess the blind spot monitors, pre-collision sensors, lane departure, cross traffic alerts etc etc etc in the newer cars accounts for some of that. In my case, it was a financial decision. Buy cheap and plan to break even, or make money in a year while saving a ton of money on gas for the year that I drive it. It gets almost 5x the fuel efficiency that my truck gets. I'm less likely to die in the Corolla than I am in most of my toys anyways. At any given time, I've managed around 800 Toyotas in a fleet for the last 15 years. I've seen a ton of accidents and totaled vehicles without a single serious injury *Knocks on wood*

Yeah I probably could do that TXsilverado but wasn’t really looking for a new vehicle. Spending like $500 a month in gas at the peak this past year. Would take quite a while to get my ROI on that. Not worth it especially if in a year or so prices go back to normal.

I was just curious how much my mpg could tank depending on the engine swap and what upgrades. I have seen some claiming 9mpg average not towing with a mild 6.2. Doesn’t sound right though so I created this thread to see what others are getting based on mods
