For 500-1000 dollars, and with the exception of nitrous, is a converter the best bang for the buck? On the same note can I throw a 75-100 shot to my totally stock engine?

A high stall converter with a nice STR will make a bigger difference in you 0-60MPH performance than some spray...unless you like running from a running start.

The Yank 3000 is probably the best all around converter for our trucks. Many people on this board run them. You get appx 3000 stall (depends on torque) and a 2.21 STR. I would like to see that STR around 2.5 tho'. Plus you can tow too.

Be sure to get a larger trans cooler, cheap insurance.

You can run a 75shot on a stock truck. I'd go with a set of long tube headers first...

Hitman, I will never tow anything with this truck and I doubt anything will ever be in the bed until I buy a house. Should I just buy the 3200 stall? Which long tubes should I go with?

The 3200 is gonna take a bit more gas to move, and feel different. I used to have a PI Stallion converter in a 4400lbs car and it was nice. You get used to it really fast.

If you are not going to tow, the 3200 you will be like <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> at the performance difference.

Long tubes are a wash. Arizona Speed & Marine are excellent. I prefer The Other Guys, better construction and warranty. Thorley has a new set out also. Just brand preference.

I noticed you were also asking about shift kits and stuff. TransGo is the way to go. That with both billet servos are great. Insane holding capacty, way tighter shifts, and a stronger trans.

You could install that stuff yourself. Get an ATSG (auto trans service group) manual for all the pics, exploded diagrams, and torque specs. Also, I'd just start contacting and visiting local trans shops. If you get a weird feeling leave. Ask about hi-po rebuilds, shift kits, if they know inherent problems about transmissions, etc. Make sure they know their stuff.
