Default Are the newer oil pumps better?

I noticed that with my swap to an 06 motor, the oil pressure stays around 60 psi, and goes up to around 70-75 cruising on the highway. My old motor would only push about 42 psi at idle, and not much more when cruising. Did GM upgrade the oil pumps in the newer motors or what?

My 02LQ9 sits at 45 psi on idle and 55-60lbs driving around. If I get on it, it goes to about 70psi. I've wondered about this too since I've seen some of the newer trucks max out the oil gauge when they floor it.
