Newbie with some question.

I almost purchased a 2500HD-crew cab LT/4x4/8.1-Allison. I thought you could only get the Allison in the HD trucks no matter what motor? You can get a ZF 6 speed...
I do know only 4.10:1's come with the 6.0 and you can get 3.73:1 or 4.10:1 with the 8.1 or Duramax.
The more I think about it, the more I wish I would have gotten an HD. Looks cooler and much stronger parts. 10.5" rear end, 9.5" IFS (I think), 4L80E or Allion trans. But most importantly... a bigger motor! 6.0 or 8.1 or Duramax. But the gas milage isn't too good on those huge trucks, I think that is what stopped me.

Allison is only available with the Max and 8.1. Mileage sint that bad, YET! With 35's and 6" of lift I get about 12.5 City and 14.0 highway.
Question on the Yank converter. Since it has higher stall will that make my tranny heat up quicker while towing?
I am wanting the extra *** for towing purposes. That is why i am looking for a low end grunt cam.

It may make it run a slight bit hotter but nothing a $45 trans cooler won't cure, either way a huge trans cooler when towing is always cheap insurance. Besides you will be able to get up a get into the power much, much faster. http://www.converter.cc/trucks_and_suvs.htm I'd suppose you want the 2600HD converter. The STR is pretty low on it so I'd give them a call for a custom higher STR. That is the Static Torque Ratio if I remember the acronym correctly. That will multiply input torque many more times than stock, it would feel like you gained a good amount of torque.
Part of your problem is you went from 4.10:1's with like 31" tires to a 6" lift and 35" tires. Every 1" you go up in tire height drops a .1 from your axle ratio. So now you roughly have a 3.70:1 axle ratio with a really tall 2.4:1 first gear in your trans. Those giant tires are also jacking with your gas milage too due to the increased weight.
I would consider a gear swap to 4.56:1s for front and rear to go back to stock performance also, but that does get costly.
Cam wise maybe a 212/218 114lsa cam advanced 2-4* may be what you are looking for. Hell I think you can get a cam with advance built in and then manually advance it when degreeing it. Best bet to call those guy at Absolute Speed I mentioned and tell them you need a stump puller or whatever you call what you are looking for. lol *** loads of torque and heads to match.
When you advance a cam it brings the powerband down and when it is retarded it brings the powerband up.

Far as the big trucks sucking gas, I get 10.7 MPG average since new. But still I only fill up with premium gas once a week and pay $40 bucks opposed to my last truck a 01 S10 that used $25 a week. That $35 dollars extra a week to have a truck thats twice as fast, gets twice the attention, and makes me proud to own and show off, the $35 bucks extra a week feels awfully cheap.
