Hey everyone.... Im Rick and new here... I gotta 05' sierra 5.3 and gotta few things done to it. But the real question is, what kinda programmer to go with? I am leanin towards gettin the diablosport predator, but not sure which is best for my application. I have a catback flowmaster 50 series and I have on order right now a volant cold air intake, airaid throttle body spacer and JBA stainless shorty headers. Any help would be great, Thanks-

Looks like your leaning towards the wrong direction. Tuning wise always go with a custom dyno tune, Ive seen predators lose 2 hp over stock tune. Shorty headers are basically what your manifolds are which are a waste of money get long tube headers, best bang for the buck are pacesetter long tube headers. Speed Engneering (Sponsor)on the right has them. Throttle body spacers are a waste of money, they work on carbureted engines not ours. Your good on your cold air intake though.

thanks dude... Im gonna get a custom tune next week at ocean state performance but the guy pat there was tryin to sell me the perdator, said it was great to have for the 5.3, maybe he was bullshittin. I was lookin at the pace setter coated but I think I need to go with stainless headers seems how I live in RI... salty roads.... but the TB spacer is a waist?

I think hes givin you a load of ****. -2 hp on a 5.3 i dont see that great. yea since your in RI stainless would be best. Spacers work when fuel goes through them as it gets better atomization, yet only on a carburetor engine i had on the dyno a while back it only made 8hp..yea it may spin air and all but its pointless as it goes into the intake runners, the air is not going to be spinning as it goes into the runners

Yup, the TB spacer is a waste of $ on our trucks but don't feel too bad, a lot of us have wasted money
Find another dyno shop if you can, that one sounds sketchy. Ask them what software they use to do the tuning.
Welcome to the boards, I suggest you don't do anything with your truck until you've had a few days to read around on the forum.

Welcome aboard man...if you can't get a local dyno tune, look into a custom mail order tune from one of our sponsors or the other well known tuners (Nelson, Wheatley, BlackBear, PCMforLess). Even a mail order tune will net you more gains than a handheld. Forget the shorties, I know from personal experience that they're useless...I had shorties prior to my current StainlessWorks LT's. Either StainlessWorks or Dynatech make stainless LT headers that will fit your truck, and both offer catted and off road y-pipes. They're pricey but excellent. The throttle body spacer is good if you're drilling into it for nitrous nozzles
