yeah if you regear it will help a lot on the low end with the 35's. i got 4.88's waiting to go in from the sponsor here. granted yes you drive highway and with gears (4.56 or 4.88) youll be pulling 2300-2500 at like 75, but that really isnt that big of a difference from 1900-2000.

once you get gears done, look into some custom tuning when you make your cam choice. being lifted might change the idea of the 5.3 and the 220/220 cam being a great fit with a lot of people running it and happy. might need to do like a 212/218. converter is another story for a lifted truck. id say if your properly geared no more than a 2600-3000 for a daily driver.

I'm going to change the gears to 4.10's in the next few days. I'ma also going to do a cam swap with valve sping and push rods and all the other little goddies. so my question to ya'll is what cam?
If I can get away with it for a few months on ether cam a stall swap can happen just not right now. So, i'm looking for a gain in low to mid power range with a good sound nothing to extream just noticable.I do drive ALOT ALOT ALOT on hyw. I'm not into hotrodding it around. just looking for an upgrade on my daily driver that will not lead to many problems down the road.

any suggerstion would be great.

it's comp cam part numbers.

K54-426-11. Duration @ .050 222/224 Lift is .566/.568 with a 112 LSA..

Our HT1 Cam would compliment your setup nicely. Cam, springs, pushrods can be had for under $550. Specs are 214/218 .559/.562 111 LSA

Cruising 70 on the hwy, I knock down around 20mpg.

If GA just has the OBDII plug-in like NJ, then yes, once tuned, you'll pass no problem. If it's a sniffer, you should still be good to go as guys have run bigger cams than that in CA and passed the sniffer. It's all in the tuning...

I'm not sure how familiar comp is with cams going in our heavy trucks, but TSP (Texas Speed & Performance) was very knowledgeable about pairing a cam up with the right stall & gear combo when I was shopping for a cam. Also, a cam with a lower LSA such, as 112, will give you the sound I think you're looking for as well as move the torque curve to a lower RPM which will help you with towing. Switching to 4.10's was a step in the right direction and like others have said, sell your handheld programmer and get a custom tune from nelson/wheatley/blackbear.

I went with the HT1 214/218 .559/.562 111 LSA new springs, pushrods, lifters and valve seals. I also went with the 4.56 gears. I'm waiting now for it to all arrive. When i'm get it all installed i'll be heading to get it tuned by someone local to douglasville ga area not sure who just yet. The hand held will be sold.
