New set up Ides??

Just wondering what Ideas the more experienced might have. My new truck is a 2006 crew cab 5.3 with 4l60 3.73 and a g80, and aftermarket muffler. I am looking to get better fuel mileage and better power. I will be using this as an everyday driver and also to pull my single cab to the track. I am more concerned with the over all durability of this truck, but I would like to make it faster. I have all ready ordered long tubes and off road Y, CAI, and I am working on getting EFI live and a tune from black bear. I am interested in putting a cam in latter on but I would like to keep the stock converter or at least a full size in order to keep my pulling ability. In the cam I am looking for good power and good sound. I now it sound a little strange but I want a nice choppy idle even though the trucks a log. I have looked into the comp cams thumper series do you guys have any suggestions?

if you will be towing and it's a crew cab...keep it somewhat on the small side...no bigger than the 212/218 grind, I would even go smaller I think for what you are looking for. 206-210 range right in there somewhere

I agree w/ sonoma43. A Comp XR259HR (p/n 54-408-11, 206/212 duration) would be good for what you are looking for. If you wanted to go little bigger, the XR265HR (p/n 54-412-11, 212/218 duration) is a really good cam, also. There is a thread posted by NicD (see link below) for this cam that showed really good numbers for a 5.3. No loss on the low end w/ good gains through the mid & top end. Good luck

yea this is why I like others in put, any idea if the 212/218 will provide any change in sound? I want the truck to have the cam performance sound. I know that sounds stupid but it's just something I was looking for. The over all performance is most important but if I can find a mild performer that bumps good I will go that way. Keep the info coming. I have never owned a crew cab so I under stand the lower side of things because the extra weight.
