Default New here and a few Questions about the 4.8

I am not new to racing I have a low 9 second S-10 but I am lost when it comes to fuel injection. I have a 03 Chevy with the 4.8 that I would like to mess with. Is this engine any good to build or should I look for a bigger size 6.0??? I would like to keep it an 4.8 for money reasons. What are the mods that would be best to run at least 12s on motor??? Thanks for any help.

the typical response on this site is gonna be converter/cam/custom tune... those mods will drop the time pretty dramatically. but then theres always the basics u could start with... intake/headers/exaust/efans/pulleys/posi/gears...etc. anyway... 12s is kinda a low number to shoot for so ur gonna need some more intense mods, maybe even a s/c or nitrous. but as far as 13s, which i think is low enough...u could easily pull that with mods above

I know 12s are a little far fetched but I think it can be done. What will tuning it do??? Should I install a cam first??? Also what are the best converters to get??? I know these sound like a stupid questions coming from some one who runs in the nines but I know FI is a whole new market for parts.

To run 12's in a 4.8 is gonna require a power adder. Unless you plan to tear into it and make it a high compression engine.

i would check out the fastest truck list, to see how other people are getting into the 12s.

i would get a game planned as do you want to do it all on motor, or with some FI.

supercharger, skip the intake.
turbo (Engine bay mount) skip the headers
STS turbo skip the exhaust, i think you can run headers with it

you also need to take into consideration for how long this project will take, if your going to be moving slowly like most of us you could probably get the headers and the intake for the time being. that is unless you supercharge/ turbo it first.

Yea, from 1st hand experience..

Look at the fastest truck list, and then look at the 4.8lers .. mid to high 12's and low 13's is pretty much a solid run for these trucks. Of course you can make more power, all it takes is money. But to run 12s on motor will be really tough and will require an extensive head/cam package and even then it will still be a challenge.

I know LTNKLR, and Crazycutter have 12 sec 4.8s, and Im still tryin to get 12.90s on street tires. With slicks, im sure im there already.. 01 Thunder has a 4.8L that runs 13.80s on motor with a nice lumpstick so Im sure he'll tell you about his N/A journey.

My suggestion, pill it.

Im guessing that the 03 4.8 has to be a 4l60e tranny... i wouldnt go above a 150 shot for reg. use after building the truck up.. bc 4l60's dont like the heat.
