Default New guy here, few ?'s......

Hi all,

I'm intersted in buying a Silverado. The one I'm currently looking at is a 99' Ext. Cab SB LS 1500 Z-71, 42,000 miles fairly loaded. The asking price (dealer) is $18,995.

What kinda things should I be looking for, as far as common problems with these trucks, and what kind of offer should I give, reasonable price? I think that their asking price is pretty good, but everyone comes down, also, considering they have about 10-15 used Silverados on the lot.

Thanks,
Rob

That sounds kind of high for a used 99'. You need to remember that the dealership probably bought that truck through a trade in and probably paid around $13,000 for it, so there is a lot of room for negotiation. If I were you, I would look for a 00+ truck with the 5.3L. The 99's don't perform as well as the newer trucks and they have there share of factory problems that can be costly: like the ABS motor might go out=$900, or the gas tank responder=$800.

I have never seen a 00+ have those problems, so go with the newer ones if you can.

I love my 99. I do wish that it had the 4th door. Don't pay over $17K for the 99 model.

I have had no major problems with my 99. I did have the ABS issue, but that was taken care of under warranty.

yea, what he said, there is nothing wrong with 99's sure if you can but newer(pay more) than why not but it is prety much the same truck from 99-2002. the 99's have the 5.3

i agree with the 17k also, and for that it should be in prety good shape, not bald tires and full of scratches.

Thanks for the info guys. I did read some reviews around the net about the 99's and the 00's. I saw alot more complaints about the 99's compaired to the 00's, I just wanted to get some forum tips. I'll be going for a 00' after I save up some more cash. I really want a C3, but too much money.
