Just got my custom intake done on my '03 Tahoe. I am pleased and for the money I am happy with it. Here are pics.

Looking good bludool. Where did you get the parts for the intake? Got a write up you used, or can you throw together something for everyone? Also, any SOTP performance notice? thanks

Working on deal, to have all parts available to build exactly as shown including filter. for about $150.00. Not sure if that is a good deal or not, would appreciate some feed back. Thanks. Filter is from a large diesel engine, have used same setup on my Powerstroke, flows more volume than KN or others out there when tested. On normally aspirated motor should be good for 35-50,000 miles before needing replacement.

Looks good! . Maybe you should reroute the hose going over the tube near the MAF underneath the tube. It may look better. Then people can have a clear view of your custom intake (just my opinion).

You need a heatshield to keep the engine compartment heat from being drawn into the filter.Looks good other than that.

I took the tray out that held stock airbox in, heat shield would be next, planning on fabbing one and having some duct work that gathers gold air from in front of fender. I tried to get the ducting to go under the hose but the bend appeared to severe. May try again and see what I can accomplish. Thanks to all that responded.

Looks ALOT like mine. I have pics of it on my website. I think $150 is a bit steep for something you can build yourself for about $30 bucks.

jlwz71, that's where I got all of my parts from as well.

Here are the actual costs:
4" cobra head--$32.00
4" 45 degree rubber elbow--$10.00
2' 4" aluminum tubing--$14.00
Baldwin Filter--$40.00
Hold Down Bracket--$18.00
4 Constant torque clamps--$5.40 each--$21.00
Washington State Tax, as I am not a business--8.8% or $11.88.
Total is $146.88 for parts, I rounded it off at $150.00. I actually thought that was a pretty good deal for folks looking for alternative to FIPK and other competitive intakes. JSmith, Sorry if I offended, I have been running similar setup on my '00 Powerstroke, and it had really worked well, just was passing along what I had learned from working with Diesels. I am sure that you can build it cheaper, you could use lower quality clamps, not use the Baldwin filter, and bracket, this would save quite a bit. Also, because of the "drive by wire" throttle body on the '03, it is very tight against the fan shroud, thus forcing the use of the 4" Cobra Head, I believe on the earlier models, you could get away with just a 45, which is significantly less than what I was forced to use. Just my two cents. If folks want specifics, I have no problem in compiling a "how-to" article with all relevent part numbers. Again, due to the fact that I was mirroring the application on my Diesel, I went with "over built" parts, thus driving the cost up. Hope this clears up any confusion or misunderstanding.

Who said I was offended? Just saying that it looks like the one I made. Not trying to claim I was the first one that did it. Mine only fits if you're running electric fans. On the older cable accuated throttle bodies the clearance between the TB and the shroud is tight. You'd have to use a cobra head then too.
