Aren't the cam/spring/rod combos around $750 I'm not sure what I paid for my install but it wasn't that much. A good tune will run $400-$500.

Camshaft obviously, whats a good brand, reliable, lift duration etc...

I assume the springs would be valve springs? Any specific brand anyone recomends?

Will I need new lifters? If so, solid or hydraulic?

Will I need new valves and pushrods?

Anything else I need I welcome your suggestions. This is by far the best website I have found for chevrolet trucks and from the looks of your rides you all seem to know what the hell your doing...so I appreciate it.
You will need basic tools such as sockets, drives, etc. You will also need a pulley puller and a valve spring tool which you should be able to rent at your local auto parts store. You also need a couple of dowl rods to hold the lifters up and to have a pen magnet so you don't lose the locks.

As for a cam, it is pry best to do a search since there are soooo many out there. Look into the TR224 or TR220 to see what you think about those.

The most popular valve springs (assuming you don't get a cam with over .600 lift) are the Comp 918's.

You do not need new lifters.

You do not need new valves but it would be cheap, safe insurance to get new 7.4" hardened chromemoly pushrods.

Besides that, you may or may not need new water pump gaskets but you can get those at any auto parts store. I think that pretty much covers the gist of it. If I'm missing anything I'm sure someone will chime in.

Here is a very detailed site that is a GREAT resource. http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=23

that's thunderracing's camshaft package and I think texas speed or somebody like that had the same package but with their lob grinds for like $560.

I think you would lose compression with those on a 5.3L. I could be wrong though.

Yup, I am pretty sure they have a larger combustion chamber so you will lose some compression...

Yeah I think that Radix you were talkin about that sold for $2400 on EGAY, was a boy here locally.

You know you will need a stall converter, if you go with a CAM larger than 220, you might as well figure one of them into your swap as well I would go with atleast a 2800-3000 stall. I think you would like 216/220 on a 114 LSA

I'm running a 224/227 on a stock stall with 4.10's and it will still break them loose and it even feels a little stronger down low...
