Default Need A New Cold Air Intake

well i got to thinking my 85mm intake and the 85mmTB im ordering tonight so then i get to measuring my k&n cold air intake..the metal tube its self is 82mm..then this stupid rubber piece in pic below..the collapsed part is 60mmX80mm..so now im going to have to make a cold air intake..or should i just buy an airfilter to stick on the throttle body??

Your tube will be fine, with the 85mm you have increased the volume to the intake with the same velocity of air coming in from your intake tube, which is good.

stock throttle body opening is a 78mm ported or not and i have a 85mm intake and tb..the intake tube its self is 82mm and the bottlenecked rubber piece is 60mm..to me that defeating the purpose of having an 85mm intake and tb

I dont think so? You are allowing more air inside the intake because of the bigger t/body.

but the rubber piece is 60mm?? yes the tb is letting in more air but your not gettin full advantage of the 85mm tb..so your saying air flowing through 60mm would flow the same amount of air as an 85mm..

Velocity would be the same, but Volume would be greater. Just my opinion, the bigger t/bodies have helped me..

I have heard that you do not want to stick a filter straight on the T/B. If the tube is 82, and the T/B is 85 you will be fine. I dont see how the rubber piece will be a problem, it will still be drawing enough air to feed the 85, it will just be drawing it in a lot faster and harder through the tube. If you are worried about the rubber piece, I would cut it down the side and add something in the gap and rap the **** out of it with some really good black tape and glue the inside.
