Default Need ideas

Im just recently the proud owner of a 2003 chevy silverado (4.8). Anyways I used to be "into" hotrodding back when I had a ride worth hot rodding, but since ive been out of it awhile, I find myself lost mostly in these threads. My truck is bone stock atm, and my goal for this year atleast is basicly have three things done to it. Intake (cold air box), exhiost, and chipping. My overall goal for this truck is running 13's. I know its probably a long shot with what I stated above but thats why its a "long shot".

Ive already explored ideas on the Intake, Will probably end up going with a K&N intake system, not set in stone, price and rep play into that. But Im open to ideas on that section.

Programmer/chipping(what I still affectionatly it) Ive looked at hypertech programmers but ive been out of the picture for awhile, so my knowledge on good programmers is limited. If anyone could post some information comparing the two it would be appreciated.

Exhiost, my main focal point atm. Ive already decided im not going to true duel it out, probably going 2 into 1 with a dump behind the passenger side tire(like the gibson cat back? package) My main unknown is, if i want to go short headers or regular full length and wether to cut the cat off or not. Ive been told that I would HAVE to have a programmer then becuase the engine wouldnt idle right and plus i would have the pesky check engine light on all the time.

(spelling and grammer sucks I know)

anyways Im not to knowledgeable in this new area (give me a 4.3 s-10 and I know my stuff) but as far as this spiffy v-8 i have now, im clueless.

Thanks in advance for any help

Hey man, Well for startes get a tune, nelson or wait for me. It is a custom tune so you can have it programed how you want. Do a search best thing to do. Then go with Longtube hedders, shorties dont do a whole lot, yes deleate the cats, and run duel exhaust, and you can get the cats turned off in a tune. Well hope this helps, On this site there is a bunch of horsepower addicts, so information will come easy just ask!!!! Good luck

The k&n is a good intake. I don't think I have heard any complaints about them at all. For exhaust, look into the pacesetter lts with the catless y-pipe. You could then weld a muffler of your choice (a lot like magnaflow on here) and use the stock piping. Then, like mentioned, get a custom tune. I would recommend Nelson as he seems to have more experience and I don't think I have ever heard anyone complain about his tunes.

well I had to spend some money this weekend becuase I needed a fix. For the short term i went ahead and chopped off the FREAKING HUGE, stock muffler, and replaced it with a 2 chamber flow(single in single out). And I love the sound. I also replaced the paper filter with a K&N replacement filter. Most of the gain I would notice from a 250 dollar intake system would be from the filter itself, so for now not gunna spend big bucks on an intake system. For the time being im happy but I know I wont be for long (road in a friends 95 dakota, 318, 450 horse monster).

Explain this custom tune? Im not sure if I follow you on that.

Also going back to cutting off the cat. Ive heard that in order to do that you have to have a programmer(or a tune i guess) and pay big bucks for bypasses on the cats. What I want to know is just how you go about doing that. Ive heard horror stories, and its kinda put the whole exhoist project on hold.
