ok well first of all its not with the camaro. its a 99 ext cab 1500 5.7 350. well ever since i got my car the truck mostly sat there. but i want to start driving it again and now i knew the battery was dead. so i recharged it. then i drove around town and went home, then it didnt want to start. so i went and had them test the alternator. (said it was working but wasnt going to last very much longer) so i bought an alternator and put it on last saturday. been driving it ever since. but this morning i park it and notice im parked in the red. so i get back in to move it up and it didnt start. just made that ticking noise. then about 10:30 i go outside to see if it will start and it does.
need some advice and opinions on what to do or what it can be. maybe i should cut some of the cable to get whatever corrosion off.
thanks for any help

also something simple check your conections. The battery terminals might be corroded. It does not sound like much but I have seen the same thing in my sisters car. Take the connections loose and clean them may use a wire brush. There is a spray you can get from a auto parts store that you spray on and it cleans the terminals. Then you reaply it and it is suppost to keep it from corroding again. But the batteries normaly last for 3-4 years.

i really appreciate your responses. the truck is almost 4yrs old. so i guess i should get a new battery. i had cleaned the cables about a week ago. took off the red and black covers. there was corrosion so i got some lt.sand paper and scrub it off. but i did notice there was like 1/4 inch of white residue on the main cable. so im gonna recut the wire and get a new battery. hopefully it works.
thanks again for your response.

Recut the wires? Please tell me your not using them cheap clamp-on battery terminals. If so you'll be doing this again in three months. Also remember that these new alternators are only designed to maintain the battery from 80-100 percent charge so if you drive with a near dead battery very often you'll end up with a dead alternator too.
