Default Muffler suggestions?

I am installing a 5.3 EFI in my 79 C-10. I will not be using cats, and will have 3" pipes ran to the rear of the cab with an H pipe before the mufflers. Then a pair of 2.5" manderal bent tail pipes with exit behind each tire.

I don't want it really raspy glass pack sounding. I want it deep but not to much drone.

Truck is running a 3:08 gear with a 4L60E, and a 255/70/15 tire. I should be looking at about 1400 at 55mph and about 1750 at 70mph.

I really have not been around a 5.3 with out cats. With the truck being a SCLB I'll have plenty of pipe for sound. I am leaning toward magnaflows, I had these on previously with a carbed 355/350TH and they sounded good, but had a crackly pop to them. An H pipe could have taken that out....

Can I get some opinions about mufflers?

Try out Spintech or StainlessWorks' old-school chambered mufflers. They sound wicked, different, in the Spintech's case a reduction of drone over a comparable Flowmaster, and best of all they both flow great.

Orrrr....you could be even more different and have some Borla S-Types(a.k.a. Stingers) bolted onto that dual setup with an X-pipe and sound like you're going Mustang-hunting in a Corvette...

If you're looking for a more traditional muscley sound, look at Magnaflow, Hooker Aeroflow, or Dynomax Ultra-Flow.

Hooker. Great flowing, heavy duty mufflers and not terribly expensive.

Magnaflow in my opinion since you already have a system.

I just got my 58 chevy with 2004 5.3 running. I used 24" magnaflows exit in front of the tire. The 24s are very quiet until you get on it. Im very satisfied. Mark
