Muffler help and opinions???

I originally just replaced the stock muffler with a welded in Flowmaster. It was definitely deeper toned, but too quiet with the rest of the exhaust stock.
Next, I went with a custom 1 (3 inch pipe) into 2 (2.5" tailpiped) Flowmaster setup, which was "just loud enough", without being obnoxious.
Now...with a recent addition of longtube headers, and no cats, in less than 2 weeks I found that the "just loud enough" catback setup I loved for a year, was LOUD & RASPY, but not GOOD sounding at all, IMHO. The other day I added a $20 Summit 3" "Bullet" muffler which helped a lot, but still has some rasp accelerating under a load.
In retrospect, I think I'd have been better off simply swapping on the headers to go with my factory stock catback, or maybe just swapping to a better flowing, but still reasonably quiet muffler, after the headers. Not to mention it would have saved me $600 or so.
If you plan to "gut the cats" like you said, then I'd suggest doing that first. If it amplifies the exhaust anything even close to how headers and an off road Y pipe do, it may just be the sound you're looking for, as-is. It's also a "free mod" (or near free), which is always a plus.

It's basically the same muffler as the Dynomax. From the research I've done it flows slightly better, produces a little more horsepower, and is relatively quiet when running down the road at speed.
