Default Muffler ?

I just bought an 02 Yukon 4.8. I want to replace the muffler, no catback. I looked under it and noticed that it is single in, dual out, then Y's into1 out the back. Will a single in dual out weld in place of the stock muffler or would it be better to just have a shop cut out the Y and go with a singel in single out.

If you do not want dual exits, I would just use a single in/out muffler.

Any idea why GM did this. Seems pointless to have the exhaust routed this way

1 of the exits on the muffler is actually blocked. Has something to do with keeping noise down, but i agree it is pretty pointless.

A single in dual out would fit there, but that's equally pointless, just get the shop to cut out the Y pipe and stick a bullet muffler there.
