thanks for all the help! im gonna order the MSD 8.5 this weekend, along w/ ngk tr-5 plugs unless there is a better choice for plugs out there? also when replacing the fuel filter i heard you can just pull the fuel pump fuse and let it run the gas out of the line and filter, is that correct?

thanks for the responses this place has a lot of info

i have the msd 8.5's on my truck and have had zero issues with them. i picked them up used and have had them on for almost two years. no radio noise or nothing. granted, we have a nice ignition system but i like the red better than the grey i had. so either way, i am happy.

I use the ACDelco irridium spark plugs from the dealer. these are OEM plugs in the 04+ trucks and also the replacement plugs for all 97+ LSx engines, including trucks

i couldn't find a fuse for the fuel pump. i think there is a relay in the fuse box. what you said about pulling the fuse and letting the engine die out works. but i never did this since i couldn't pull the relay out .

i ended up taking the fuel filter out anyway. luckily it came out without a mess. and nothing broke

Just pull the relay and run it until it dies. Then use a special tool to relieve the rest of the pressure. There is a cap on the right (passenger) side fuel rail. Unscrew it and use the tool. A screwdriver works too but I recommend against it as it can be dangerous.

the msd 8.5 wires have 1500 ohms of resistance. The linear resistance is 40-50 ohms/foot, but there is about 40 feet of wire wound into each plug wire.

I had some cheap XACT wires and changed them out to the used MSD 8.5s and I could really feel a difference, it felt like a stronger spark and could definately feel the added acceleration, but I have a custom tune and I guess the timing makes a difference. I say get em at Auto Zone, lol I just started working there today. Gotta try to help the company out!
