Default More broken crap

HOLY bejesus, what next.

I told him, "Man, when you guys steal a stereo, YOU REALLY GO ALL OUT!" Sorry, he laughed.

Anyway, replacing A/C evaporator. NOT me, some friends who run a shop. I never knew you had to take the whole damn dash out. Christ, why doesn't manufacturers make "split" dashes? You know, take top off and then the rest is split into? So, I told him today while he's in there to go aead and replace the heater core as well (140K on truck...not the motor though)

He said, "Aren't you an electrician? WTF is this damn mess?"

BTW, Torque_Wrench hooked me up with killer prices on some parts. Here's to him and his customer service. Almost as good as JPA. If he would lose the shredded paper package material I might move him up my list.

I meant to tell you, it was cool that you packaged the evaporator in bubble wrap but then filled the rest of the space with shredded paper. LMAO

That mess of wires, that's my central location (behind the center console) for every asseccory wire in my truck. Gauges, wideband controller, wide band, nitrous switch, meth switch, e-fan for Hxr switch, laser blocker switch, stereo wires, kill switch, remote start (old stye), nitrous pressure gauge wires, LMAO...all right there, in one spot. Sad huh?

My evaporator just went out with 22k miles on it
Luckily my good dealer did it under warrenty. They know I wouldn't try to warranty something that I touched. I didnt' think about having to pull the whole dash when I droped it off but he said they had fun with my wires too.

Well, got it all back together...
New Evaporator
New Accumolator
New Heater Core (might as well since we are in there)
New air filters (WOW, they were dirty)
Put a vacuucm on the a/c system, let go and it lost vaccum instantly. Did this a few times trying to find the leak through sound. You'd figure you could hear such a leak. Garden hose test and nothing. Can't find it anywhere. Put freon and dye in it. Nothing. No dye coming out, NOTHING. If you sit still and idle, it won't cool. A/C is running, engine gets hotter, but no cold air. If you start to drive it gets cool. I'd say about 75% of what it could be, so not the best but it starts to cool.

So, WTF?!?!?! What else is left? The pump and condensing coil right? The rubber hose going from the accumolator to the pump looks old...but NO dye is coming from it. Anybody know wtf? ideas? We just spent 2 days ripping this f-ing dash apart and putting it back together AND it still f-ing leaks. ARGHGHGHGHG!!!!!!!

Don't forget, you gotta have air flowing thru the condensor. My e-fans quit due to bad grounds, and the a/c wouldn't cool, either. Got the fans fixed, and the a/c works better.

my 99 had ac problems, gas it up and within 3-4 days it was gone, we put in dye and everything and couldnt find anything anywhere. my suggestion is to take it to someone who has an electronic leak detector, its about $3-400 so i dont think its worth it to buy one, and see if you can find it then, its probably on the high side

btw, i never found my leak i just sold the truck as is

Talked to Torque_Wrench's tech and he said the leak (dye) sometimes hides on the backside of the condenser. We'll see if I have time to drop it back off today.

I've never had good luck with the dye. My dad bought a Snap On sniffer on ebay and I borrow it when I need one. He's moving over an hour away so i'm going to have to buy one myself now I'll never work on AC again without one.

Alright, if any one cares...this AC kicked my wallet's ***. Loooooooong story short I replaced EVERYTHING except the compressor. The mechainc had it on the lift, had his hand on the compressor with a vacuum on the system and was searching...searching...searching, and he said, "I have NO idea, there would be dye all of the this compressor if it was leaking." and he spun the pulley on the compressor. You could hear the hiss.......hiss.......hiss....hiss....hissss as it spun. IT WAS THE ******* COMPRESSOR!!!!

So I ordered a compressor from Torque_Wrench. Matched to my truck. Got it, mechanic got everything apart and...WRONG COMPRESSOR!!! WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF

After Torque_Wrench talking to GM it seems a 2002 Suburban 5.3 A/C compressor was on my truck. WTF?!!?!?WTF is a 2002 compressor doing on my 2000 truck?!?!?!?

So far, everything seems to be working okay. I ******* hope so, I have replcaed EVERYTHING on the system. If anything is wrong, it's electrical. (I even replaced low and high switches)
