Default Modifying stock MAF

I was looking into removing the metal inside the MAF until I posted here a few weeks ago and was told that is a no no because there are sensors that run inside the metal bar. Well as I was taking aprt my intake the other day I noticed that after the metal bar there is a long flat plastic pice that divides the inside in two sections. Can I cut that off fo more air flow, and just stay away from the metal bar. Has anyone done this. What if any are the gains of doing this? Thanks

I looked at it too and I've done this numerous times for LT1 and LS1 MAF's but unfortunately our MAF's are different. The LT1's and LS1's are three peices while our's are one peice molded together. I'm not going to attempt it past just removing the screen and I'd sudgest the same to you. That or you could buy one of those aftermarket ones, but I hear that you get the same or more from just removing the screen.

I DESTROYED a stock MAF (on purpose) just to see how hard it was to get that plastic divider out (really freakin hard)....it is a BITCH to get the thing cut out of there and then get the whole thng smoothed out

personally....if you plan on doing any tuning or computer upgrades LEAVE THE MAF ALONE...that screen doesn't interupt flow enough to matter and both the divider and screen are there to create "laminar flow"...that's smooth airflow over the sensor thermistors (those REALLY LITTLE WIRES) ....if the MAF doesn't get accurate readings no amount of tuning or bolt-ons is gonna help power very much

The reason the 'Vette doesn't have the screen is due to the very direct air-path the engine has....out trucks have a very convoluted air-path that requires the screen to straighten out the airflow before it get to the thermistors
