Default Mild Vortec 350 Build Questions

Ok, so Im looking at getting my 1996 Vortec 350 in storage dipped and rebuilt soon. Nothing too extreme. It came with a new ZZ4 camshaft in it. I need to double check that, though. I imagine there might be some identifying marks on the cam?

Cam: .474 Intake/.510 Exhaust, 208* Intake/221* Exhaust @ .050

Along with the GM ZZ4 springs, keepers, and retainers.

So right now Im looking at a standard .030 rebuild. Engine only had 160,000 miles and ran good when it was still in its donor truck.

So, Im trying to keep this a budget build and considered trying out Summits pistons:

.030 - 9.6:1 Compression with Vortec Heads

Those should affix to stock rods no problem, eh? Or should I pick up some nicer rods?

If so, I was looking at these...

And then Im looking at Clevite bearings and Total Seal rings.

A Summit True Roller Timing Chain, and a Proform OEM style 6.75" balancer, plus stainless ARP exterior hardware.

Engine also came with the usual billet distributor and an aluminum water pump, both brand new, never used.

With an Edelbrock Performer Carb Intake riding on top. Thinking about a carb in the 650 range.

Sound decent? Any concerns? Im not new to working on cars, especially my truck, just to piecing together a decent engine.

Thanks.

Stock rods will be fine.....fyi my motor that was in my truck when I bought it was a gm crate motor put in the truck in the early 90's I rebuilt it when I got it, only added forged pistons and didnt change anything on the bottom end and Sprayed 150 shot of nitrous thru it regularly with no problems!

Just depends on what your wanting to do power wise? What kinda vehicle is it going in?

Im not shooting for anything drastic. I dont plan on hitting the track, etc. Just a good, stout motor to run around on the weekends and very occasionally pull a 5x10 utility trailer.

The engine is going in this:

1993 C1500

It will either be backed by a TH400 3 speed (currently in the truck, FACTORY, go figure!) or converting a 4L60E over to manual valve body (I have the tranny just laying around).

My friend was kinda iffy on the Summit parts, judging by the relatively low cost. So far though I dont have much reason to doubt them. Like I said, this is just gonna be a stout lil truck motor. That has some mild pep. No track warrior. And built on a fair budget.

Everything you listed should work well......summit parts are usually high end companies products with the summit name on them.....I had summit roller rockers, and headers on that motor and didnt have any problems.....

Nice truck btw and welcome to the site!

Thanks. I like this place so far.

Im gonna research opinions for a short bit longer before I start ordering parts.

Think I should get some better pushrods? I know they're cheap enough. Will the stock rockers be fine?
